Young Dolph was born on the 24th of September 1985 located in Chicago, Illinois. His mother nicknamed him Young Dolph after basketball player Karl Malone. His family moved to Nashville at a young age, where they lived for a few years before moving back to Memphis.
Young Dolph’s parents were never married, and he struggled growing up in Memphis, Tennessee, with his mother, who had substance abuse problems. He attended high school at the Christian Brothers High School for Boys but was expelled due to fighting. After that point, Young Dolph started selling drugs on the street and became more involved in gang life. During his time in high school, he met and became friends with rapper Yo Gotti. Although they were both involved in gang life, the two remained friends and collaborated on several rap songs together after they both made it big, including “Blueberry” and “Preach.”
While Young Dolph was gaining notoriety for his music, he was also involved in several shootings. The most notable was in February 2017, when he was shot 100 times while leaving a recording studio in Hollywood. Miraculously, Young Dolph only suffered minor injuries from that shooting.
