He was a Dublin native who worked as an accountant for the Irish Hospital Sweepstakes before starting his radio career in the 1950s when several sponsored programs started airing on Radio Éireann.
The Irish Hospital Sweepstakes claimed one of the sponsored timeslots, and Val Joyce was selected to host the programs.
His other shows throughout the years included Sound of Light and Pop Call, but he is probably best known for Airs and Races, a Saturday afternoon program that included music and sporting events like horse racing in the 1980s.
