Tommy Moody Obituary: Former Gamecock Baseball Player and Broadcaster, Tommy Moody passed away at age 69 on Tuesday night, October 17, 2023.
The Gamecock athletics family is mourning the passing of former USC infielder and longtime radio color analyst Tommy Moody.
Moody, a 1970s South Carolina baseball player and A.C. Flora High School alum, has been the team’s color commentator since the year 2000. The family members, friends, fans, and colleagues mourn the death of the Carolina baseball player and radio presenter.
Tommy Moody Career
Tommy Moody attended A.C. Flora High School in Columbia, where he earned his diploma and participated in baseball and football. In the early 1970s, he attended the University of Southern California on scholarship and played second base under coach Bobby Richardson.
After graduating from college with a degree in marketing, he worked for 28 years at General Mills in Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina. He has provided play-by-play broadcasts for the Carolina Gamecocks since 2000.
Since 1998, he has served as chairman of the USC Athletic Hall of Fame. Prior to that, he served as president of the USC Literary Society in 1992. Tommy was the author of a college football newsletter titled “The Extra Point” from 1979-2010.
