Shari Smiley Obituary: Shari Smiley has passed away suddenly. He was confirmed dead on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. She died leaving many hearts scarred after learning of her sudden death.
Career
Smiley had an extensive career ranging from the book industry to the film industry. Most recently, she relaunched the Smiley Management banner. Before that, she had worked at 3 Arts, and this came after she had spent the previous four years at The Gotham Group.
There, she was successful in selling the dramatic rights to several titles, the most notable of which were In a Dark, Dark Wood, The Barbizon, and An Anonymous Girl; the sales of these titles all led to heated bidding competitions. Smiley had also worked as a consultant for the person who was in charge of settling the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien.
Smiley spent most of her 18-year career with CAA, where she started as a receptionist in 1993 and quickly outsold some of the more seasoned agents. When she left that agency, she informed famed literary agent Mort Janklow, who recommended she name her new organization The Smiley Group.
