Sammy McClure Obituary: Retired Paulding County Board of Education Chairman Sammy McClure Sr. died on Thursday 9th November 2023.

Sammy McClure Sr. completed his early and high school education in Paulding County, graduating as the valedictorian of the Class of 1965 from Matthews Consolidated School.

He pursued higher education at Savannah State College in Savannah, GA. There, he achieved a Bachelor’s degree in Pure Mathematics with a minor in Physics, graduating with honors.

His dedication to education persisted as he pursued further studies at West Georgia College, obtaining certifications in elementary education and earning both a Master’s and a specialist’s Degree in Educational Administration.

In the autumn of 1977, he transitioned to an administrative role, beginning as the assistant principal at Paulding County Junior High. Over the course of three years, he earned a promotion to principal at the same institution, later renamed Herschel Jones Junior High and Herschel Jones Middle School.

Remarkably, he served as principal for 17 years. In the concluding five years of his professional journey, he contributed to the educational landscape of Paulding County as the Math and Science Curriculum Coordinator for the district.

McClure assumed his position on the Paulding County Board of Education in 2003, securing subsequent re-election victories in 2006, 2010, and 2014.
