Sam Gawel Obituary, Death Cause: Gawel, a 21-year-old senior from Detroit, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly today on campus, according to an email sent to the Dartmouth community by interim college dean Scott Brown.

The cause of Gawel’s passing has not yet been disclosed.

According to his Facebook profile, Gawel graduated from The Jean and Samuel Frankel Jewish Academy in Metropolitan Detroit. According to Brown’s email, he studied anthropology, environmental, and earth sciences at Dartmouth and was a part of the fraternities Chi Gamma Epsilon and Habitat for Humanity. Gawel loved hiking, mountain biking, cooking, and the Detroit Lions and “felt at home” in New Hampshire and the White Mountains.
