Rainy Dawn Ortiz Death – Rainy Dawn Ortiz, a poet, and a beadwork artist passed away on Wednesday, December 6, she was 50 years old, Ortiz’s work has appeared in Kenyon Review and Cutthroat, a Journal of the Arts. She was the daughter of American poet, musician, playwright, and author, Joy Harjo.

Poet, musician, playwright, and author Joy Harjo hails from the United States of America. Her tenure as the 23rd Poet Laureate of the United States of America made her the first Native American to ever hold that position. In addition to this, she was only the second Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to have served for three periods, following in the footsteps of Robert Pinsky. Harjo is a member of the Muscogee Nation, also known as Este Mvskokvlke, and he is also a member of Oce Vpofv, also known as Hickory Place.
With regard to the second wave of the literary Native American Renaissance that occurred in the latter part of the 20th century, she is a significant figure. After completing her undergraduate degree at the University of New Mexico in 1976, she went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa’s creative writing department. She also attended the Institute of American Indian Arts after completing her undergraduate degree.
