On other news, a man from South Whitley had to be airlifted to the hospital following a collision involving two vehicles after being hit from behind by a semi at the crossroads of US 30 and SR 13 in Pierceton, On November 12, at 10:03 p.m., deputies from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a collision involving two vehicles that had occurred on East US 30, east of South SR 13 in Pierceton.
A white 2020 Peterbilt 579 semi driven by Abdias E. Almonor, 27, from Tallahassee, Florida, was going west on US 30 when he rear-ended a blue 2015 Dodge Dart, as stated in an accident report filed by the KCSO. Brian L. Hunter, 47, of South Whitley was the one behind the wheel of the Dart.
According to Almonor, the traffic signal at the intersection of State Route 13 and United States Route 30 changed while Hunter was applying the brakes to his vehicle, making it impossible for Almonor to respond in time. When approaching the crossroads, Almonor did not make any effort to either come to a halt or slow down since the witnesses all stated that the traffic light on US 30 was red for both eastbound and westbound traffic.
After suffering back injuries and being trapped inside his vehicle, Hunter was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Wayne and treated there. It is projected that the damages will exceed $100,000.
