Missing Jakarah Lopez-Moore: A 16-year-old girl who had been missing since late August was found dead over the weekend, and her death has been ruled a homicide. The decomposed remains of Lopez-Moore were found on Saturday in the woods behind 5 Vanguard Parkway.
Jakarah Lopez-Moore, 16, was last seen leaving her house on Weld Street around 1:45 a.m. on August 27, according to police.
On Saturday, October 14, fishermen in west Rochester found and reported to the police a body in the woods behind an industrial park along the Erie Canal. The body was later identified as that of Jakarah, who had been missing since the previous week.
Vanguard Parkway is in an industrial area in the city and is just off Emerson Street and east of Lee Road and Route 390.
How was Jakarah Lopez-Moore killed?
Police did not say how Lopez-Moore was killed, but said that her death was ruled a homicide. Umbrino declined to share much about the investigation, noting that some details would only be known by whoever killed Lopez-Moore, including how she died.
