Michael Franke Death – Michael Franke, President and Co-owner of Komet, lost his long-term fight with cancer on December 10 at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne. He was 63 years old at the time of his passing.

It was in the year 1990 that Michael, together with his brothers Steve, David, Richard, and Bill, acquired the Komets franchise. Not only did Michael receive a Mad Anthony Red Coat in 2017, but so did his siblings and Scott Sproat, who is also a co-owner of the San Francisco Giants.

As well as being a highly regarded member of the Board of Directors of the European Championship Hockey League (ECHL), Michael had a significant role in the continuation of the United Hockey League, the revitalization of the International Hockey League, and finally the consolidation of the Central Hockey League with the ECHL, which is where the Komets currently play. The Komets have won seven titles in five different leagues while the Franke brothers have been in charge of the team.
