Mary Rangel Obituary: North Kent Connect board member, Mrs. Mary Jane Rangel, age 62, passed away on November 3, 2023, in Grand Rapids, MI.

Mary Rangel was born on February 17, 1961, to Francisco and Maria (Rodriguez) Santellan in Grant, MI. She attended Grant High School and graduated with the class of 1979.

Mary worked as a W.I.C. Representative for the District 10 Health Department and was a member of the board of trustees of the Fremont Community Foundation. Mary was a passionate leader and advocate for farmworkers.

Through her leadership the Sparta Area Migrant Resource Council provided events and services for farmworkers in the community including organizing food distributions, and a Posada event to provide coats to over 300 Migrant farmworker children in the area.

She was recently nominated by the Fremont Area Community Foundation for the Newaygo County Influential Women in Leadership, 2023, and was awarded with the emerging leader award at the luncheon on September 26th.

Mary also served on the board of North Kent Connect. On October 17, 2023, in Kent County, she married Plutarco Hipolito Sostenes.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2023, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at Bailey Christian Church, 17635 Pearl St., Bailey, Michigan 49303.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Bailey Christian Church, Bailey, Michigan, with Pastor Scott Colvin, officiating. Burial will take place in the Shippy Cemetery.
