Libby Christie AM Obituary: Former Executive Director of The Australian Ballet Libby Christie AM died on Tuesday 17th October 2023.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Libby Christie AM, who served as our Executive Director for almost a decade, passed away suddenly over the weekend.

Libby Christie Education/Career

Libby Christie AM’s educational background includes degrees in arts and adult education from the University of Sydney and the Canberra Institute of Higher Education (now known as the University of Canberra).

She began her career in further and higher education as an adult educator in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

Prior to joining the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Libby held key management positions in the technology and telecommunications sectors.

From 2000 to 2002, she served as Asia Pacific President of Monster.com, a leading global online recruitment company.

Prior to this, she held senior roles in sales, marketing, and business development within the Australian telecommunications industry, notably Optus Communications and Telstra.

From 2003 to 2009, Libby presided over the role of Managing Director of the Sydney Symphony.

She has been a dedicated and committed Executive Director at The Australian Ballet since July 2013 where she retired in 2022. Before taking the responsibilities at The Australian Ballet, she served as the CEO of the Australia Council from December 2012 to May 2013.

Preceding this, she held the position of Executive Director of Arts Funding at the Australia Council for the Arts from 2009 to 2012.

Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our dear friend, Libby Christie AM. Their departure has left a void that words cannot fill. Libby Christie AM was a shining light in our lives, offering comfort in times of need and sharing laughter in times of joy. Their absence is deeply felt, but we find solace in the countless memories we created together.

As we grieve together, let us remember the joy they brought into our lives and the enduring bond of friendship we shared. Though they are no longer with us, their spirit lives on in the love and memories they leave behind. Rest in peace, dear Libby Christie AM.
