Josh Kogel Obituary: The firefighter who died fighting a fire in Huron on Monday, September 4, is now identified as Cavour’s chief firefighter Josh Kogel.
According to the Huron Fire Department, crews battled the fire in 100-degree temperatures at a commercial business located on Highway 14 in Huron, confirming that one firefighter suffered fatal injuries battling the blaze.
48-year-old Josh Kogel suffered a medical situation while fighting the fire on Monday. Kogel has been a firefighter for over 20 years. He leaves behind two children and two stepchildren.
Josh Kogel Cause Of Death
On Monday, Sept. 4, 2023, Chief Josh Kogel responded to a structure fire at the Hurd Alignment and Services building. While outside the burning building at the fire apparatus, he experienced a medical emergency and collapsed. He was immediately taken to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The cause of his death has yet to be determined. Fatality status is provisional and may change as USFA contacts State Fire Marshals to verify the fatality incident information.
