On July 22, 1995, Jonathan Owens was born in St. Louis, Missouri, United States, is an American football player. Owens played college football at the University of Missouri and was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft with the 151st overall pick.

Owens had a successful high school career playing for Hazelwood West High School in his hometown, during which he recorded 85 tackles and five interceptions. Owens committed to play College Football for the University of Missouri on July 17, 2012. While at Mizzou, Owens improved each year and set multiple records, including most forced fumbles (10) in a single season and most consecutive games recording an interception (4).

He signed with the Bengals after going unselected in the 2017 NFL Draft. On September 2, 2017, he was waived by the Bengals and was signed to their practice squad the next day. On September 16, 2017, Owens was promoted to the Bengals active roster following an injury to William Jackson III and made his NFL debut at cornerback in Week 2 of the 2017 season against Green Bay Packers.

Owens is not related to former NBA star Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway or future NFL All-Pro tight end Julius Thomas, who were his teammates on the University of Portland basketball team.
