John Sprague Obituary: Retired Riverview High Football Coach John Sprague of Sarasota, Florida has sadly passed away. He died on Friday 17th November 2023 surrounded by his beloved family.

John Sprague Career

In 1981, Sprague assumed the role of head football coach for the Rams, a position he held for an impressive 30 years. Subsequently, he transitioned to become the school’s athletic director and presently serves as the boy’s golf coach. Throughout his tenure as the Rams’ head coach, Sprague has amassed a commendable 198-68 record.

Under his guidance, Sarasota-Riverview clinched nine District Championships, and four Regional Championships, and secured the position of State Runner-Up twice. Notably, Sprague earned the prestigious title of Nike’s Coach of the Year twice and the FHSAA Coach of the Year three times. His enduring presence in the Tampa community has forged connections across all levels of the football world.
