Belmont University Shooting – After lying in the Edgehill Community Memorial Gardens Park for an hour, a Belmont University student was discovered to have suffered a stray gunshot wound to the head. Around 2:30 p.m., Jillian Ludwig, 18, was shot. Metro Nashville Police reported that on Tuesday, she was strolling around the track at the Edgehill Community Memorial Gardens Park. Ludwig is a first-year New Jersey native majoring in music business, the university said via email to faculty and staff.

Early on Wednesday morning, the police announced that Shaquille Taylor, 29, had been arrested for the shooting. The arrest affidavits for Taylor state that after Ludwig was discovered at the park at approximately 3:30 p.m., someone alerted the authorities. In critical condition, she was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

According to Taylor’s arrest affidavit, officers discovered six 40-caliber shell casings on 13th Court close to 14th Avenue South while they were investigating the incident. The gunshot is thought to have originated from a nearby public housing development, where surveillance footage showed a man firing several shots toward a dark vehicle. Ludwig was captured on camera tumbling to the ground as the automobile drove off, according to court documents.

The suspect was arrested and charged

Taylor’s arrest affidavit states that a confidential informant recognized him to police as the alleged shooter and that he looked like the man in the video. Taylor left his girlfriend’s apartment at the complex while the police were still there, and they took him to jail. According to the arrest document, the defendant acknowledged shooting at an automobile and recognized himself as the culprit from a still image taken from the MDHA video.

According to police records, Taylor’s girlfriend also informed authorities that he had confessed to her that he had been engaged in a shooting. According to court documents, Taylor faces charges of tampering with evidence, aggravated assault, and passing the pistol to someone else after the incident. His bond has been set at $280,000.
