Who is Peter Hook?
Peter Hook, an English musician renowned for his role as the bassist and co-founder of the rock bands Joy Division and New Order, is recognized for his distinctive use of the bass as a lead instrument.
He often played melodies on the high strings, employing a notable heavy chorus effect. In the context of New Order, Hook adopted this style, leaving the actual basslines to be handled by keyboards or sequencers.
In 1976, Hook, along with Bernard Sumner, established the band that would eventually evolve into Joy Division. After the tragic death of lead singer Ian Curtis in 1980, the band transformed into New Order, with Hook continuing to play bass until 2007.
Throughout his career, Hook contributed to various musical projects, recording one album with Revenge (One True Passion), two albums with Monaco (Music for Pleasure and Monaco), and one album with Freebass (It’s a Beautiful Life).
In these projects, he took on roles as a bassist, keyboardist, and lead vocalist. Presently, he serves as the lead singer and one of the bassists for Peter Hook and the Light.
