He was announced dead by Bethune Palliser Regional Library in a social media post that read “We lost a treasured patron last weekend. James & Sheahan are regular patrons, they love books & libraries! Sadly, I had my last visit with James last Friday! Our very deepest sympathy to Sheahan & family.

According to a fundraising page organized by Penelope Hawthorne to benefit Moose Jaw Humane Society Inc., on October 28th, 2023, tragedy struck a small town in Saskatchewan and a building fire claimed the life of James and his pets, leaving behind his loving partner of 20 years, friends, farm and family.
