Jake Carver & Lance Erskine killed in car accident on 5 Freeway

Jake Carver Death, Lance Erskine Death: Jake Carver of Huntington Beach and Lance Erskine of Fountain Valley have been identified as the victims in the crash that happened Tuesday morning on the Golden State (5) Freeway in the Santa Fe Springs area. 19-year-old Landon Hazelwood from Garden Grove has been arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Hazelwood, who was driving a Honda Accord reportedly slid into a semi-truck that was stopped on the side of the southbound lanes of the freeway near the Carmenita Road exit at approximately 1:30 a.m., according to officials with the California Highway Patrol. The circumstances behind the collision are unknown.

When authorities from the California Highway Patrol arrived, they found three occupants inside the Accord. However, Landon Hazelwood who was sitting in the driver’s seat was awake and alive. The two passengers, Carver and Erskine were pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Hazelwood was brought to a hospital and detained on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. When the collision occurred, it would appear that the driver of the semi-truck was not present at the scene of the accident.

Before all lanes were reopened, traffic was restricted to only one lane for several hours. The investigation into what caused the crash is still ongoing.
