Dina Bourque, the principal of Iberia Middle School, passed away early on Thursday morning in an automobile accident, according to school officials. Shortly after six in the morning, a crash happened close to the intersection of North Grand Prairie Road and US 90 West Frontage Road in New Iberia. According to New Iberia Police, there has been a “major crash” that has caused the area’s highways to be closed.
Captain Leland K. Laseter of the New Iberia Police Department said that an initial investigation showed that when the driver of the tractor failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection of West Frontage Road, the tractor was driving trailers containing sugarcane on North Grand Prairie Road. Following the collision between the trailer and Bourque’s car, the driver was pronounced deceased at the spot. According to authorities, classes are continuing in session and both staff and students can access grief counselors at the school.
