In a shooting that took place on Friday evening, the victims of the incident have been identified by the Asheville Police Department.
At approximately 11:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 300 block of New Leicester Highway in response to a report of a person who had been shot, as stated by the police.
They arrived on the scene and discovered a man who had been shot and was lying dead inside of a store. It was later brought to the attention of the officers by the dispatchers that another individual who had been shot had been taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, that individual did not survive their injuries.
The following names of the victims have been made public by the coroner: The body of Chase Christian VanLeeuwen was discovered inside the establishment, and Marckia Ornette Jones passed away at Mission Hospital as a result of the injuries she sustained.
An individual of interest has been identified by detectives at this time; however, the name of the individual has not been disclosed while investigators continue to pursue a variety of leads.
