A Forsyth County sheriff’s deputy, Auston Smith Reudelhuber was killed early Saturday morning when he was hit by a truck.

Deputy Auston Smith Reudelhuber, 32, was in his patrol vehicle driving on N.C. 150 in Davidson County when he was fatally struck just after 5:15 a.m., according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Reudelhuber joined the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office on March 29, 2021, and was assigned to the Field Services Division, and was a Field Training Officer.

Saturday morning, just after 5:15, Deputy Sheriff II Auston Smith Reudelhuber was driving his patrol vehicle for his shift, when he was struck by a box truck. It happened on the 5200 block of NC Hwy 150 in Davidson County.

The Deputy was then transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

NC State Troopers arrested William Benton and charged him with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, reckless driving, and left of center.

Deputy Auston Reudelhuber was more than just a dedicated law enforcement officer; he was a beloved member of our FCSO family. At 32 years old, he had been with us since March 29, 2021, serving as a Field Training Officer in the Field Services Division.

Before joining our ranks, Auston proudly served the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office for over three years and dedicated six years to the United States Army.
